About half a million jobs,Tata to spend 6000 crore rupees; iPhone assembly plant on 250 acres of land in Tamil Nadu

It is reported that the production of iPhones will start by November 2024 at the assembly plant being built by Tata in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 6000 crore. There are also reports that Tata Electronics’ iPhone plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu will create around half a million jobs.
Apple’s iPhone contract manufacturers in India are Tata, Pegatron and Foxconn. The Hosur factory in Tamil Nadu is Tata Electronics’ second iPhone assembly plant after it acquired a unit of Taiwanese company Wistron.

This assembly unit alone is expected to create employment opportunities for 35,000 to 40,000 workers, making it the largest iPhone manufacturing hub in India. India will also play a more critical role in the global supply chain

The iPhone is manufactured in China. Apple was targeting India as part of its efforts to transplant to other countries. Apple has also announced that it will shift 18 percent of global iPhone production to India by 2025. Soon after this Tata took over the operations of Wistron.

Apple exported devices worth $5 billion (roughly Rs 41,200 crore) from India in 2022. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the proportion of iPhones made in India will increase to 25 percent of global production by 2024, up from 14 percent at present. Earlier this year, Apple launched the iPhone 15 and 15 in India. Plus had started production.
