Prominent industrialist M.A. Yousafali-led Lulu Group is gearing up for a massive expansion in India. Lulu Group will set up India’s largest shopping mall on the land purchased for a record amount in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Currently, Lulu has a hypermarket in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.Lulu Group Chairman MA said that more shopping malls and hypermarkets will be established in Tamil Nadu. Yousafali clarified. India’s largest shopping mall in Ahmedabad
Last June, Lulu Group bought land in Ahmedabad municipality from the corporation for Rs 519 crore. This was the largest land sale transaction under the Ahmedabad Corporation. Lulu Group aims to set up India’s largest shopping mall with an investment of around Rs 4,000 crore. MA said that the construction work of the mall will start soon and around 7,500 people will get employment directly and indirectly in the mall. Yousafali has clarified.
Step into Tamilnadu
In India, Lulu shopping malls are currently located in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Thrissur, Triprayar and Palakkad. Apart from these malls, hypermarkets are also operating in Coimbatore and Kochi Forum Mall. Lulu has plans to set up shopping malls and hypermarkets across Tamil Nadu. In the first phase, negotiations are in progress with the Tamil Nadu government regarding land for setting up a shopping mall in Chennai.
Kozhikode shopping mall as Onam gift
Lulu Group’s fifth shopping mall in Kerala will start operations at Mangav in Kozhikode early next month. At present Lulu malls in Kerala are located in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad. Vimal also operates in Triprayar. A new Lulu Mall is also coming up in Kottayam. It is slated to open later this year or early next year.
